The Artist and Owner: Risa Kaplan Mandelberg
Risa Mandelberg is the owner and primary paper cut artist of The Paperdoll Company®.
She started the company in 1992. She has had a life-long love of paper cutting.
Risa, born in Brooklyn, New York, was raised in Brooklyn & Bellmore, Long Island. She and her
husband and family settled down in Los Angeles which has been home since 1979. Her love of
crafts and folk art began as a small child taking art classes at The Brooklyn Museum of Art.
The Paperdoll Company® combines two of Risa's great passions: folk art & Judaica. Paper-
cutting allows her to express all kinds of ideas and sentiments. Many of her paper cuts are
personal and reflect her ideas, events and people in her life. The main thrust of The Paperdoll
Company is to bring beautiful & meaningful Judaica into everyday life.
Risa learned the art of paper cutting from her wonderful teacher Jerry Navour at the University
of Judaism (now called The American Jewish University), Los Angeles
